OHF Walk for a Cure
Description
Two families share more than living in the Raleigh Durham Tri-City area, they also share a life threatening disease called Primary Hyperoxaluria (PH), which causes the never ending formation of kidney stones. On Saturday, November 7th, 2009 at just before 10 AM, over 75 friends and family walked around Symphony Lake in Cary, NC to Walk for a Cure.
Communities drove miles and hours to be together on Saturday morning and celebrate Mayah Bloch and Jon Anglemyer, two of many families suffering from this disease. The Triangle area also brought out researchers from Wake Forest and Duke University who are working to find a cure for this disease. Everyone had time to mingle and learn about the latest in science, what it is like to live with the disease and what life is like post transplant, currently, the only cure. We'd like to thank everyone who came out and supported this inaugural walk where we raised over $8,000.
Kids enjoyed face painting, arts and crafts and they took pictures with the Chic-fil-A cow! There were raffles, including Lifetime Fitness memberships, a UNC signed basketball, tastes of the towns of Apex, Cary and Durham, scrapbooking and golf. Everyone went home with wonderful goodie bags from Whole Foods stuffed with treats. It really was a celebration of these two families and their quest to find a cure. The OHF would like to thank the Blochs and the Anglemyers for their endless hours of work to make this day a huge success. Their daily struggles are our daily struggles and we strive everyday to find a cure and end this disease.
In its inaugural year, OHF Walk for a Cure. Take the Challenge is committed to raising awareness and educating friends and family and anyone who is interested in learning more about PH and stone-related diseases. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
