Take the Challenge King George Virginia…Takes the Challenge Walking to find a cure for Hyperoxaluria On Sunday, May 15th, 2011, the Schmitt family joined with friends and others to walk for a cure for Primary Hyperoxaluria. The grey skies did not dampen the spirits of over 60 people that came out to support the family, as they walked their inaugural event. The Schmitt family was surrounded by love and support of friends from the community. All the participants came out on the gloomy morning to END Primary Hyperoxaluria and the fight that Alex and Gunnar Schmitt face every day. The morning started bright and early with set up of festive decorations and water coolers. The excitement grew as participants began to arrive and check-in on what was happening. Everyone was buzzing about the boys and walking for a cure. Jamie kicked off the event with a speech highlighting research advances and work done by the OHF, the only foundation in the world committed to finding a cure for PH, as well as the story of Gunnar and Alex (read their story) and Sergeant Edward Alsip a member of the Marine Corp, in the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Command warmed the group up with calisthenics. Everyone who walked assembled at the start and the group began a mile of awareness. Everyone walked in groups, conversing and supporting the very cause they were there for! It was a magnificent event. The Schmitt family felt proud and honored to know that all the people that came out to the event thought so highly of their family and cared so very much. The months of planning had all come together and it was so very worth it. The Schmitt's know that the future holds the answer… Hopefully it will be the cure for PH, OHF is the key needed to unlock the door … The Schmitt family would like to thank all of the Donors, Volunteers, Participants and the OHF Staff for making this Event a Success! |
